
Aleksandra Trifunovic receives Max Delbrück Research Prize 2025
The University of Cologne has awarded the Max Delbrück Research Prize 2025 in the category of natural and life sciences to Professor Dr. Aleksandra Trifunovic. She receives this prize for her pioneering contributions to mitochondrial biology. Her research stands out for its scientific depth, methodological innovation, and lasting impact on both basic biology and the understanding of human health.
Aleksandra Trifunovic is an internationally renowned scientist whose research has significantly shaped our understanding of mitochondria, aging, and cellular stress responses. Her work has laid the foundation for key developments in mitochondrial quality control and its role in age-related diseases. Professor Trifunovic is also a Project Leader in SFB 1607’s C01 Project “Mitochondrial DNA at the interface between mitochondrial dysfunction and neuroinflammation in glaucoma” together with Dr. med. Hanhan Liu.
