Family Support

Within our SFB 1607, we are committed to supporting the balance between career and family for all our members. We actively promote the advancement of young scientists while ensuring a family-friendly research environment.
Child Day Care
We help parents secure a daycare spot for their children at nearby Kitas, making it easier to balance family life and scientific work.
Support during Maternity Leaves
We offer support programs for women during maternity, providing dedicated assistance staff to help with daily lab tasks. This enables them to effectively balance their responsibilities while continuing to advance their research.
The KidsBox – a Mobile Parent-Child Room
The KidsBox is a mobile cupboard equipped with essentials for parents who need to bring their child to the office due to short-term childcare gaps. To borrow it, contact the Scientific Coordination Team at wissko.augenklinik@uk-koeln.de
Everyday Assistance
If you’re facing an acute family stress situation and need temporary workplace support, we can assist. Contact the Scientific Coordination Team at wissko.augenklinik@uk-koeln.de to discuss your needs.
Child Care during Events
During SFB 1607 events or unexpected childcare issues, we offer emergency care through the Back-up service and a babysitter service, allowing parents to attend conferences and keep work commitments.
Dual Career & Family Support (CFS)
The Dual Career & Family Support (CFS) at the University of Cologne assists dual-career couples by helping partners find jobs, improving childcare options, and maintaining databases for childcare and babysitters
Beyond childcare, CFS also supports those caring for relatives. Explore the CFS Program for Parents & Caring Relatives for more details.
Back-up Service of the UoC
Parents may face challenges finding reliable short-term childcare. The UoC Backup-Service provides emergency care for children aged six months to eight years. SFB 1607 organizes backup and event childcare, enabling parents to attend both SFB 1607 and external scientific events.
Babysitting Service of the UoC
Dual Career & Family Support has expanded its services for university members by creating a babysitter pool, offering additional childcare options for families.
Reimbursement of Private Babysitter
SFB 1607 staff are eligible for refinancing of care costs incurred due to work-related activities that require additional care for their children or relatives in need of care.
