Prof. Cursiefen honored with Medal of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences & Filatov Memorial Lecture
The Filatov Institute of Ophthalmology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine awards the Filatov Memorial Lecture and the Filatov Memorial Medal every two years in memory of the ophthalmologist Prof. Dr. Vladimir Filatov, one of the pioneers of corneal transplantation and corneal banking. The latter is endowed by the National Academy of Medical Science of Ukraine.
The Filatov Memorial Lecture is given by a Ukrainian or international ophthalmologist who has made a significant contribution to the development of corneal transplantation, reconstructive surgery and tissue therapy. The lecture will be given at the opening ceremony of the Filatov Memorial Lectures conference.
The 4th award winner in 2024 was Prof. Dr. Claus Cursiefen, Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital Cologne, for his achievements in optimizing minimally invasive corneal transplantation at this year’s conference.
The Cologne clinic is the largest center for corneal transplant surgery in Germany. There has been a close clinical and scientific exchange with the eye clinic of the Filatov Institute for many years.
