We are always looking for motivated medical students who want to pursue an experimental doctoral thesis within SFB 1607.
You will gain hands-on experience in experimental and translational research, access a strong academic and industry network, and participate in scientific training through our IRTG courses.
We also offer options for Master’s theses and research internships.

SFB 1607 – MD Thesis Scholarship
After successfully securing a doctoral position with a project leader (PI) of SFB 1607, medical students have the opportunity to apply for additional financial support through the MD Scholarship program. The scholarship supports experimental or clinical-experimental doctoral research projects that align with the scientific goals of SFB 1607.

Scholarship type:
This is a scholarship awarded through the Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) of SFB 1607. It is intended for external medical students conducting their doctoral research within the scientific scope of the consortium.
Overview
SFB 1607 offers dedicated funding opportunities for medical doctoral candidates within the consortium’s scientific focus for a period of 2-4 months. We support both clinical-experimental and experimental MD thesis projects that align with the goals of SFB 1607. This scholarship aims to foster early scientific careers at the interface of clinical practice and cutting-edge biomedical research.
Funding is provided for a period of two to four months and includes both a monthly stipend and a consumables allowance. Applicants must be under 30 years of age, enrolled as medical students or doctoral candidates in medicine, and must already have an official supervision agreement with an SFB 1607 PI at the time of application. To allow for full-time research, a semester off is recommended. Scholarships are awarded based on the decision of the IRTG Steering Board.

- Curriculum vitae (max. 1 page)
- Certificates (high school diploma and documentation of completed university exams or physics course)
- Letter of motivation (max. 1 page)
- Confirmation and letter of recommendation from the supervisor (max. 1 page)
- Project proposal (max. 2 pages), including scientific background, preliminary work, methodology, hypotheses, timeline, and relevance to the research themes of SFB 1607
After completing their doctoral work, scholarship holders are required to submit a final report to the IRTG Steering Committee within six months. Upon request, awardees may also be invited to present their findings at the annual retreat of SFB 1607.
