Each scholarship provides a monthly stipend of €1365, along with €103 for consumables to support research-related expenses.

This scholarship is awarded through the Integrated Research Training Group (IRTG) of SFB 1607 and is exclusively available to PhD students already part of SFB 1607.

Overview

The PhD Fellowship provides funding for a short-term scientific mission of up to 4 months in the field of SFB 1607. This opportunity is available exclusively to PhD students already part of SFB 1607. It supports visits to external institutions or laboratories to learn new techniques or collaborate on joint research projects related to the consortium’s focus.

The PhD Fellowship offers funding for a short-term scientific mission (STSM) of up to 4 months within the scope of SFB 1607. This opportunity is exclusively available to PhD students already enrolled in SFB 1607. The fellowship supports visits to external institutions or laboratories, where recipients can acquire new methods or collaborate on research projects that align with the goals of the consortium.

To apply, applicants must submit the following documents via email to the SFB 1607 Scientific Coordination Team at wissko.augenklinik@uk-koeln.de:

  • Curriculum vitae (max. 1 page)
  • Certificates (high school, bachelor and master diploma)
  • Letter of motivation (max. 1 page)
  • Confirmation and letter of recommendation from the supervisor (max. 1 page)
  • Invitation letter of the hosting institution
  • Project proposal (max. 2 pages), including scientific background, preliminary work, methods, hypotheses, timeline, and relation to a topic of SFB 1607
  • Estimation of costs of the scientific mission

Scholarship holders are required to submit a final report to the IRTG Steering Board no later than 6 months after completing their STSM. Additionally, at the IRTG’s request, a presentation of the completed work may be made at the annual SFB 1607 retreat.
