World Sight Day 2024
We proudly support World Sight Day, a global observance dedicated to raising awareness about vision impairment, blindness, and the critical importance of eye health. This year’s World Sight Day highlights the need for regular eye examinations, early detection of eye conditions, and equitable access to eye care for all. It also draws attention to ongoing efforts to eliminate preventable blindness and improve the lives of individuals with vision loss.
World Sight Day was first established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) in 1998. It is now recognized worldwide as a key initiative that mobilizes organizations, governments, and eye care professionals in the global fight against avoidable blindness.
Simultaneously, the Department of Ophthalmology of the University Hospital Cologne is playing a key role at the upcoming annual meeting of the German Society of Ophthalmology (DOG), taking place in Berlin from October 10-13, 2024. This year, the department will present 135 contributions led by more than 50 clinicians and researchers, many of whom are part of CRC 1607. Their work continues to support the mission of World Sight Day by advancing research, improving clinical practices, and advocating for enhanced eye care.
World Sight Day 2024 serves as a vital reminder that vision impairment and blindness can be significantly reduced through accessible and timely interventions. CRC 1607 is proud to contribute to this global effort.
